What is eco certification ?

What is eco certification?: It is the certification of renewable long term management of the forests themselves, the eco certification concerns on the one hand the management of the forests themselves and on the other, the products issuing from these forests verified by a process of traceability and controls to guarantee the origin of the wood.
There exist five systems of certification in the world; France has chosen the PEFC system, better adapted for small forestries.

What we believe is essential

It is very important to emphasise that each felled tree that we use is replaced by a young sapling in order to best preserve this natural resource.
In addition to that you can ascertain that the wood originates from European areas where the density of forest is very high (Up to 60% of the area is covered in forests). This is a more rational manner of exploiting the natural resources of European countries and equally aiding emerging countries, allowing them to benefit from their ancestral knowledge.

Significant Events

  • 1992 : Earth summit in Rio, outline of the long term management of forests.
  • 1993 : European Ministerial Conference in Helsinki adapting the principles of Rio in the management of European forests and the definition of six criteria of long term management.
  • 1998 : European Ministerial conference at Lisbon adopting the pan European recommendations for the long term management of forests.
  • 1999 : France, Finland, Norway Sweden, Germany and Austria create the PEFC system of certification, based on the six criteria of Helsinki.
  • 2000 : Adoption of the French certification system, creation of the AFC1 which became the PEFC2 France.

The 6 Criteria of Helsinki

  • Conservation and development of the forests and their global carbon contribution.
  • Maintain the health and vitality of the forest eco systems.
  • Maintain and foster the production methods of the forests
  • Maintenance conservation and improvement of biological diversity in the forest eco systems.
  • Maintenance of and relevant improvements of the biological diversity of the forests ecosystems management of the forests (particularly soil and water).
  • Maintenance of other socio economic systems.
